A Lenten photographic reflection

San Luis is the oldest town in Colorado. It is here where you will find Hubert Maesta's (nearly) life sizes bronze sculptures of the Stations of the Cross spread out along a footpath. Beginning in town the path meanders up the side of a mesa, and is more formally known as "la Mesa de la Piedad y de la Misericordia" (Hill of Piety and Mercy). On top of the mesa there is a church constructed in a classic southwest style known as "The Shrine of the Stations of the Cross". Looking out from the church in the morning sun several of the stations are silhouetted as it illuminates the valley below and high mountain peaks on the horizon.

This was the last location during my short trip to south central Colorado. Though there was no specific purpose to this stop, I found it most appropriate to be here on the first Friday of Lent.
